So, today I hit the ground running, and stopped about 45 minutes ago.

Got up, had breakfast, went to work. Got out of work slightly early (thank goodness), went tearing off to the student center, bought a sandwich, inhaled same, went to the library, actually found several useful books, went tearing off to the computer lab, filled in another 5 glossary entries over the course of three hours, had two and a half hours of terminology class, came home, had a bowl of soup, did dishes, and am now starting to slow down.

Body tired. Brain too wired to slow down yet. Brain still has to remember to print translations tonight.

Tomorrow: have to get ahold of prof during morning office hours, do some more glossary entries, go to foreign language honor society induction, go to class immediately afterward, stay there until 7:00, come home, eat soup, swear (again) about lack of groceries in the house, and do readings for next week. Grocery shopping will probably happen after work on Thursday.

Sometimes I wish I had a roommate, if only to have somebody I could ask to make food happen when I'm too busy to do it myself.

I know what you mean. The boy is good for that, in my case. My old roommates though, I didn't trust to cook because they were smelly hippies.

Recommendation: As someone who's not much of a cook and who used to voluntarily chain herself to her computer for hours on end, here's two simple, cheap recipes that involve entirely or mostly nonperishable ingredients:

1) Pozole ala Val (10 minutes to cook)

i) Buy a can of Nixatamal/White Hominy/Pozole for each mouth that needs to be fed. Avaliable at big supermarkets and spanish stores. Easy to get in Mass -- not sure about Ohio. Usually costs from 69 to 88 to 99 cents a can.

ii)Buy a container of salsa

iii) Drain pozole and combine pozole and salsa in a big pan. A wok is generally good, because it has nice raised sides and keeps everything from spilling.

iv) OPTIONAL (extra five minutes or more to prep time) if you like add some chopped up tomato(es) and red or other peppers. Chicken can also go with it, but generally its a lot of extra effort.

v) heat it all up (if you're not using meat; meat needs to be cooked separately and is stupid that way)

vi) put it in a bowl, stick in some chips if you like, put on cheese if you like

and voila, dinner with no effort except for opening a can and a jar and turning on the stove!

2)Ron's Boullion Rice

i) put boullion cubes in boiling water.

ii) once the boullion becomes stock, add lemon pepper and rice, and let the boullion boil for a while.

iii) after the rice is mostly cooked, add a can of chicken (you really can get canned, cooked chicken), and/or canned peas or carrots (although uncanned 'baby' carrots in a bag which last a while are much more appetizing)

When the rice is cooked you will most likely have boiled away the boullion and will have a yummy ricedish.
