Ever since I gave blood in February, the Red Cross has been sending me mail asking me if I wouldn't please do it again. So, today, I did.

It knocked me on my ass. Quite literally, in fact. I was fine through the whole actual process, fine afterwards while I was drinking free orange juice, fine on the walk to the library (which didn't involve any stairs, or even any walking uphill), and then just as I was done making copies, my head started spinning and my vision greyed out. I pretty much collapsed in the nearest armchair and spent the next twenty minutes breaking out in cold sweat and convincing myself that I was not going to either faint or throw up. For about half of that time, all I wanted was to lie down on the floor, but I didn't really want to deal with the possible consequences of that (I had better places to spend the afternoon than in the hospital.) Anyway, I finally got myself put mostly back together, wandered very slowly off to Satterfield (which is the building where all my classes are), parked myself on the bench at the second-floor landing and stayed there for the next couple of hours, going over presentation notes and the translation due on Wednesday and things like that. By the end of that time, I was merely very tired.

The presentation went. I won't say it went well, because my grammar went right the hell out the window, but it went, and I made myself understood. Now I have to write a 15-page paper before next Monday and get another 15 glossary entries done before May 1. I still feel tired, and I need a shower, and I'm debating whether beer is a good idea or not. I suspect not, but I might just do it anyway. At least it's liquid, and liquid is a good idea. And I've had dinner. And at least now that I'm home, if I'm going to make a spectacle of myself by falling on the floor, I can do it in private.
