Anyone else having problems with Gmail, or am I just lucky? I've gotten nothing but server errors since yesterday afternoon. I may be a technological anomaly, though, considering that getting my internet connection set up yesterday involved calling the cable company by cell phone and the signal died in mid-call. Fortunately it lasted long enough for the problem to be solved.

Anyway, so now I've got e-mail again, and I've got laundry going in the basement, and it's Saturday, and life is pretty good. It's a good thing the laundry's in the basement, because if I had to go out to a laundromat, I would have to do it in clothing that isn't quite fit to be worn in public.

I started actually writing down the rampant materialism list. It's startlingly long, and I can't do anything about it for at least six months. But when I can start doing something about it, boy, will I be making the economy happy...

I should go check on the laundry.

My landlord has just caught two feral kittens in the back yard. They're a brother and sister, both tabby. I wish my circumstances were different and I could ask to keep them. Unfortunately, even if I hadn't just moved in, I can't afford vet bills and cat food and all until I've been employed for a while.

On the other hand, having finally argued my e-mail into submission, I got a message from one of my former professors, with contact information for a possible freelance FR-EN medical translation job. So I've got another place to send a resume on Monday. If I got the whole job (meaning if they didn't split it among three or four translators), it would pay $1800, which is a month's rent and a good chunk of the credit card bill. It's a 30,000-word project and they're paying $.06 per word. Which, according to my Project Management class, is so low as to be ridiculous, but I've seen a lot of postings for either $.06 per word or .06 euros per word.

Sometimes being a responsible adult is a pain in the neck, but we all know that.
