domestic superpowers
Jun. 4th, 2006 05:35 pmI've decided I have a new superpower. If I go to the regular grocery store (as opposed to Trader Joe's) or the pharmacy, I can almost guarantee I will end up in line directly behind somebody who will take half an eon to get checked out. Most of the time in the grocery store, it's people whose food stamp card doesn't work, or who argue for ten minutes about the price of something that was on sale last week (or is on sale this week, only not in that size), or whose English isn't sufficient to understand "swipe your card again". At the pharmacy it's generally somebody who has three or four prescriptions, one of which has no refills left, or one of which isn't covered by insurance. Today it was somebody with three different kinds of pills in the same bottle, one of which the pharmacist couldn't identify.
At least I've been useful today. I've done some cooking and cleaned the coffee maker, and hopefully got all the vinegar out of it. Now if whoever is doing laundry would kindly put it in the dryer, I could wash the towels that haven't been dry for three days. (Memo to self: get some junk and/or beach towels.)
I would say I needed another three-day weekend, but if I had one, I probably still wouldn't get everything done. I need about a five-day weekend in order to get productivity and lounging around to balance out, instead of doing one and resenting taking that time not doing the other.
