The lead-paint abaters have set up a little air-testing machine on the landing right behind me. It sounds like an air compressor generator, and it's been sounding like that for half an hour now. I appreciate the efforts to make sure we don't all die of lead paint, but I wish it didn't involve five layers of plastic between me and the outdoors (over the fire exit, besides; they left us a box cutter and wrote "cut here in case of fire" on the plastic) and a surprisingly loud little air-testing machine. Which, it seems, will be running until 3:30 (I called to ask about that).
