Oct. 24th, 2011 03:38 pmTheoretically, the complete Civ 4 will arrive on my doorstep today. I'm debating whether to dive right into it, or save it for sometime when I won't feel vaguely guilty about doing anything because there are other things I should probably be doing. (If I'm messing around on the computer, I feel like I should be embroidering. If I'm embroidering, I feel like I should be vacuuming, or cleaning the bathroom, or practicing for my voice lesson, or...) Since I don't have a couple of clones, I suppose I should get my priorities (so to speak) straight and proceed accordingly.
I made a leek and bacon pie (would have been quiche, except I skimped on the egg and cheese part because I had too many leeks) and made a crust out of grated potato. It worked surprisingly well, except I should have put salt or garlic powder or something in it. But at least I know it works, and I like it better than bread crumbs, and it's easier to remove from the pie plate than a crustless quiche is.
At the My, How You've Grown Festival, I got into a conversation with Dad and one of my uncles about space travel, by way of slide rules. We ended up talking about why we haven't gone back to the moon, and apparently part of the problem was how much water weighs and how much water the astronauts had to take with them. (Apparently my uncle knew somebody whose job it was to reformulate the paint used on the spacecraft, so they could use one pound less paint.) I think somebody ought to consider how much computers weighed in the 60s, and how much they weigh these days. I bet they could make up the weight in water and we could go back to the moon.
I was going to be sneaky and ask for November 14 off and make a four-day weekend out of Veterans' Day, but the November P&R meeting is on the 15th and taking the day before it off would be a bad idea. Drat.
