There's nothing like spending most of a voice lesson with one hand on your diaphragm and the other on your abs to make you realize that yep, you are Fat. Time to do something about that. Walking all the way home most of the time would probably be a good place to start; it's 2 3/4 miles, and if I start walking at 5:00 I can probably get home at about the same time as I would if I got on the 5:20 bus.
The only thing less convenient than my own deadlines are other people's deadlines. I appreciate that grant applications are important, but if you had told us two weeks ago that you have a NIH grant deadline and you need to know if you're promoted before that, it would help. Now I've got "grant deadline in three days and my case went to P&R two weeks ago, why haven't I heard I'm promoted yet?" emails. Bazz fazz. At least they're not swearing at me (yet).
