Jul. 5th, 2012 12:51 pmYesterday, since I had the day off, I did some not entirely fun stuff I'd been saving for a non-weekend day off. Mostly I cleaned out my closet, to the extent of two garbage bags full of clothes I haven't worn in years. (We're talking clothes from the late 1990s, here. Most of that stuff wouldn't fit me even if I were inclined to wear it.) Next step: get the bags of clothes out of the bedroom.
My coworker's paternity leave started with his daughter's birth on July 3. We still don't know what her name is, because they don't know either. But she's here, and everybody is doing well, and that's good. I think July is a good month to be born in, but I admit I'm biased that way.
One of the smarter things I've done in a while is buy a couple of reusable bags that aren't canvas. I love my canvas Trader Joe's bags, but they take up a fair bit of space, so I don't carry them around with me unless I know I'm going grocery shopping. I bought a couple of Envirosax bags that fold and roll up into teeny little cylinders, and put one in my work bag and one in my voice lesson bag. Now I can stop on the way home and buy groceries regardless of the weather. (I worry about paper grocery bags in the rain.) So far I've had one of the new bags excessively rained on, and it didn't even lose the creases it had from being folded and rolled up. I do believe I win.
I think they must have changed the direction of the flyover that starts the Boston Pops concert. I didn't see the planes at all this year, and barely even heard them. The year they had a stealth bomber fly over, it went right over us and I said something to the effect of "How is it a stealth bomber if you can hear it coming from miles away?" (I know, that ain't what that means.) Anyway, I got all the noise I could stand from the neighbors who set off some pretty huge fireworks at 1:30 this morning. I hope that's the end of that. I'll give them the night of July 3, since nobody goes to work the next day, and the night of July 4 since that's the holiday, but just because it's some other date in July isn't a good enough reason. (Speaketh the curmudgeon who has a hard enough time getting any sleep when it's 80 and humid.)
