This is the way we strip the floor,
Strip the floor,
Strip the floor!
This is the way we strip the floor,
All on a Saturday morning.

My kitchen floor is now nekkid, down to the underlayment (which thankfully is plywood). Three of us spent four hours this morning stripping three layers of old vinyl tiles off it. The lowest layer was really thin, but REALLY stuck, so getting it off involved heat guns and putty knives. (I only burned myself once.) I don't know what they stuck that layer on with, but it looks like creosote and it's tacky everywhere. So we covered the major traffic routes through the kitchen, and the place where the cats get fed, with dropcloths. In two weeks the guy comes back to install one layer of new tiles. He says that's easy (apparently getting the old tiles off was the hard part), but I think I'll let him do the installing.

Upshot being, the kitchen floor is nekkid except for the pantry, I hurt in all sorts of places, and I have to leave for my voice lesson in an hour and a half. It's going to be an interesting lesson, I think.
