Aug. 5th, 2013 08:40 pmToday was the first day of the rest of my career, and it went. It will go better when I have access to the Dental Education shared drive instead of the Faculty Affairs shared drive, but at least I can let myself in through the front door of the dental school now, and my new space has a window. I spent most of the day reading materials for about a dozen courses, so I know what I'm going to have to deal with. Some of the courses are a lot more material-heavy than others. And the Craniofacial Genetics course materials are the stuff of nightmares. I didn't know people could grow that many extra teeth.
The other minor shock was when I opened a file cabinet drawer and discovered that it was full of skulls. Models, not real ones, but still it's somewhat unsettling to open a file drawer and find yourself being grinned at from inside it. At least now I know they're there, so the next time I open that drawer it won't be quite such a shock.
Speaking of shocks, Weight Watchers seems to be working. Last week I lost four pounds, cheeseburger craving notwithstanding (thank goodness). I still am not thrilled about black coffee with sugar, but at least I have something to show for it.
