Dec. 3rd, 2013 04:13 pmAnd there was a 20th HS reunion, and it was good. Except I was so busy not forgetting the car key (which had to be on my person but not physically stuck into the car; behold the power of Prius) that I forgot my phone, so no pictures. I also skipped the after-party, partly because I'd already had my one beer, and partly because I had to get on a train at 9:30 the next morning in New London and SOME sleep beforehand was necessary. (Not that I got much sleep, mind you, on account of coffee. But that's my fault.) But I enjoyed myself, anyway, and proved I'm not the same person I was in high school. I wouldn't have enjoyed myself if I had been.
On to the next thing, to wit: getting my gall bladder removed. I just want that over with, mostly, because it's still bothering me at least once every three or four days. It hasn't laid me out again, but it does tend to make being me somewhat unpleasant when it decides to be annoyed. Little does it know what's in store for it...and I hope that once it's gone, I'll be able to eat chocolate again. That seems to be the only thing that reliably sets it off, and I was some pissed when I discovered that, because I had just persuaded myself that a less-than-1" square of dark chocolate almond bark on a non-Wednesday wasn't a terrible thing.
Speaking of which, 8.6 more pounds is all I've got left to lose. I don't even have to take my shoes off to count that high. I guess all that hiking around in the pursuit of eating whatever I wanted for Thanksgiving actually worked. And I did eat whatever I wanted for Thanksgiving, encompassing farci AND gravy AND mashed potatoes AND pie. So there. And none of it bothered my gall bladder, either. Go figure.
It seems that all of the authors I'm waiting for new books from are either putting them out in the spring or not putting them out at all. Patrick Rothfuss, Diana Gabaldon, Terry Pratchett (in the US, anyway) and Fantagraphics Pogo vol 3 are all either originally scheduled for, or put off until, about April. George R.R. Martin, who knows? At least A Dance With Dragons is finally out in paperback, so I can read it in bed without it falling on me and possibly breaking my nose.
Now that I seem to be willing to get shots again, maybe I really will go back to India in the spring. Right now Kerala is looking like an excellent idea, since the general idea the first time I went was that the second time would be southern India. Besides, it's warm in Kerala, and the idea of messing about on a houseboat for a week or so appeals to me. But it's got to be in the spring, because that will give me time to get my innards sorted out and all the appropriate visa paperwork and shots and all that stuff dealt with. Can I call it a new adventure if I've been to the same country in the last five years?
