dchenes: (katana)
Wednesday. Which in my case is actually Thursday, because I'm taking Friday off. And Thursday can't come soon enough, either.

Most days when I leave in the morning, I tell the Hairy Beasts I'm going Bowling for Bean Dip (which is from an old Garfield strip, in which BfBD was a TV program) and mean it in a silly sort of way. This week I've meant it in an "it's utterly stupid but I have to go do it because we like to eat" sort of way. And it's not that work itself has gotten worse lately or anything; it's just that my brain is done with it and resents having to keep showing up. I have a Devious Plot for Friday, at least. It involves new kitchen shelves, which will hopefully allow me to stop using the table as a cupboard. Eventually it will involve a canvas (or more likely muslin) cover for the new shelves too, but that's more for esthetics than for any practical reason.

I need to go buy a sewing machine one of these days, but having grown up with a circa-1965 cast-iron one, I don't trust the plastic ones. They feel like you can tip them over by blowing on them. And I don't need seven zillion computerized features either. I just need to sew in mostly straight lines.

My inner four-year-old is in fine form today. It wants something, and it wants it Right Now, but it won't stop screaming for long enough to tell me what exactly it is that it wants. Today being indulgence day, I'm tempted to go see if ice cream will calm it down any. I doubt it, though. Usually when it wants something edible, it's very clear about that. Not always about what edible thing it wants, but usually about edible vs anything else. Maybe just getting out into the fresh air and sunshine for lunch will calm it down a bit.

Apparently it was hungry. I fed it the cafeteria special (skirt steak, chimichurri, potatoes and swiss chard), after which it said "Oh, OK. Better." And then I fed it coffee the way I used to drink it (extra light, two sugars) which almost counts as ice cream. And it shut up. And I think I can get through the afternoon without committing an action upon anybody.
