dchenes: (katana)
Stupid smoke detector! It goes off every time the oven gets above 300, whether there's anything actually cooking or not. So I had to do the chair gymnastics act three times in half an hour (I was roasting cauliflower), and then persuade the Hairy Beasts that the sudden nasty noises were over with and they could actually come out from under the furniture and eat their dinners in peace. Snip only ate half of hers, so I had to go sit on the kitchen floor and whistle, and then she came and finished eating. She likes whistling, the higher the better, as long as it's me and not the tea kettle. Lily was interested in coming out from under the hanging clothes in the closet, but I had to actually pick her up and bring her out of the bedroom, and she pierced me in the arm. I don't think the smoke detector will be any calmer in the future on account of the blood sacrifice, but I can hope. Or I can just take the batteries out of the damn thing before I turn the oven on next time.

At least the cauliflower came out well. I put curry powder, garlic powder and salt on it, and proceeded to eat the entire batch when it cooled off enough. And now I know that the next time I'm having a bottomless pit day, a pound and a half of cauliflower will fix that right up.
