dchenes: (katana)
Got off the bus this morning at 8:21. I know it was 8:21, because at 8:23 I got a text that said the dental school was evacuated due to a nitrogen leak. It was a nice day to be hanging around outdoors for an hour and a half or so, at least. We were all starting to wonder at what point they'd let us go home. That would have been nice, because it would have let me out of two or three meetings and a bunch of political stuff I'm not involved in but sort of need to (but really don't want to) know about anyway. Mostly what I want is to go back to bed and stay there until Columbus Day. That would let me out of an extremely long week starting Oct 6, including a 14-hour day on Oct 8.

At least my back has finally sort of sorted itself out. It's still sore, but it's differently sore and mostly in the shoulder parts, where I'm used to it. And I think having both hips locked up explains why walking home was taking five minutes longer than I thought it should, because on Sunday my 45-minute walk to my voice lesson was only 40 minutes.

I had a sudden fit of "use up stuff" cooking this weekend and made little quichelike things that are mostly leeks, mushrooms and occasional bacon bits held together by a pound of fresh cheese, half a cup of grated romano and an egg. They're probably a zillion points apiece on account of the bacon and cheese, but at least I don't have bacon kicking around in the freezer and cheese kicking around in the fridge, and I have lunch for the week. I also made tomato salad with some elderly tomatoes, and would have put capers in it if the jar of capers hadn't been so elderly I couldn't get the lid off (I threw it out). So it's just tomatoes and salt and basil and olive oil. I got the idea from Whole Foods, which had heirloom tomato salad on sale last week. Even on sale it was pretty stupid expensive, so I figured I could do it myself. It really does need the capers, though. If you put that much actual salt in, it would be too salty.

I guess I really shouldn't complain about not getting any lunchtime today (I had a meeting instead). It was a catered lunch meeting, so I had a sandwich and a brownie. And today did start an hour and a half late, so I could have gone off somewhere for breakfast if I'd chosen to. I think I might have to go get tea after my next meeting, though.
