I'm so used to snot-freezing weather that 23, which is what it was this morning, was downright balmy. I didn't even put my gloves back on when I got off the bus. I'm re-reading The Grey Seas Under, because I do it about once a winter just to remember how good I have it. I don't have anything to do with North Atlantic winter storms at sea.

Since it was snot-freezing weather all weekend, I stayed indoors all day Saturday and made soup out of the frozen turkey soup base. It was passable (dark meat, chickpeas, diced tomatoes, corn and spinach), but I hope it got better with age, as soup is wont to do. If it didn't, I only have another three servings of it anyway. (And my boss just handed me a pound of gochujang, some of which will liven it up.)

On Sunday I decided I couldn't make anything useful out of the odds and ends I had in the house, so I put on my 27 snowsuits and went grocery shopping, and came home and made a Thing out of Italian sausages (which I hadn't realized were cooked, when I bought them), ricotta, spinach, mushrooms, sliced tomatoes, and mozzarella. It smelled good while it was cooking and there's nothing in it that I don't like, so hopefully it will work for lunches for this week. It would probably be good for breakfast, too, but I've figured out that I'm not hungry in the morning lately. Thirsty, yes, but I can go without breakfast as long as I have a largish amount of liquid.

I have created a small furry monster. Lily has decided she doesn't like any sort of dry food at all, except for the treats she gets with her morning pill pocket. And she's decided she'll eat the tuna wet food, mostly (Snip cleans that up for her), but she begs like mad for the chicken wet food. I guess I'll be buying a lot of chicken wet food. Thankfully Snip doesn't like anything that used to have feathers on it. But she's on The List too, because she yarfed in the cat bed they were taking turns using and now neither one of them wants anything to do with it. And if I put it in the washing machine, that will only make it worse.

The living room rug is driving me crazy because it needs vacuuming, but I can't figure out how to vacuum a wool rug in relentlessly dry weather without shocking myself into next week. Someday I need to buy a new rug for the office and a new rug for the bedroom, since Snip has taken it upon herself to unravel at least two of the four edges of the bedroom rug and the office rug is ancient and venerable, and getting rather tired, and was a Building 19 special to begin with. But if I'm going to buy new rugs, I need to win the lottery first. Especially because I think I want braided rugs.
