Saturday started at 7:30 AM, with the delivery of my housemate's new mattress. I decided it wasn't going to do me any good to go back to bed, so I got up and helped her haul her new bedframe parts up the stairs and assemble that and put the mattress on it. That took an hour and then some, and then I had breakfast and took a shower. After that I hung around waiting for my hair to dry and did some embroidery and listened to some more Great Gildersleeve (I'm up to Episode 56, out of 270-odd).

At 3:00ish I went out, because I had to go to the drugstore and I was going to go from there to meet some friends in Davis Square at 5:30, and getting across the river on the train takes ages. It was pouring down rain, and when I got off the train to go to the drugstore, a small waterfall came off the top of the train and hit me from the face to the kneecaps. I was wearing my waterproof parka, thank goodness, but I then proceeded to be soaking wet from the hips down all night. I got to Davis Square an hour or so early and wandered around a little, looked at the digital camera I'm probably going to buy, had a cup of cocoa, and got soaked some more.

Dinner was nice (barbecue. Satisfied my craving for ribs. Wahoo!), and then we got back on the train and went to Mike's Pastry (wahoo, again! Cannoli!), and after that we went to Porter Square to the apartment of one of the other people at the dinner. We watched Grosse Point Blank, which I don't hate as much as I thought I did, but I still don't like John Cusack at all. Anyway, after that I got back on the train, got home about midnight, FINALLY got out of my wet jeans, socks, sneakers, coat and gloves, and went to bed.

Yesterday morning I got up at about 10:00, had a cannoli for breakfast (shame on me), put myself together, and then all three of us went off in search of a new rabbit cage. We went to Pet World in Framingham, because not only do they sell rabbit cages, but they run a cat shelter. They had probably 15-20 cats in a sort of Habitrail thing, all ages and sizes and colors. We're going to be getting a couple of cats in January, since the rabbit is moving out, and for all of me we're getting the cats from this place. We did get a new cage for the rabbit, came home, put it together, put her in it, went out again to go grocery shopping, came home again, and it was only 5:30. Dinner sort of happened, and then we all trooped upstairs to talk to the landlady about the moving situation.

The upshot of that conversation was, Sure, have cats! Have three or four cats! Go nuts!, and we're taking the TV and library back upstairs again. (Any volunteers to help us move a small sofa, a futon and a large TV up a flight of stairs?) So by February I will have slept in every second-floor room that could possibly be used as a bedroom.

Damn, am I sick of sore fingers. I'm playing the "harden up the blisters while still protecting them enough to have useful fingers" game. In another week I can probably dispense with the band-aids altogether. Right now I'm partly using the band-aids as protection and partly using them to hide the fact that broken blisters in the process of healing look awful.

The lesson learned is, Don't try to grab the rope with your off hand next time.
