On Friday night I went to bed at 7:15 and slept straight through to 8:30 Saturday morning. Apparently I slept through sushi, and the doorbell ringing, and a couple hundred crows perched in the trees around the house at 6:00 Saturday morning.

On Saturday I went out for dim sum for Liz's birthday. We went to a place I'd never been before - the Emperor's Garden on Washington St. in Chinatown. It used to be a theater, and where we were sitting would have been the balcony. They left the gilded proscenium arch and the ceiling alone, and it's a gorgeous room. Good food, too. After dim sum we went back to our place and had chocolate meringue pie (complete with candles).

Saturday night we went to two different holiday parties. The first was in Somerville, and had a sort of James Bond theme. I think I was the only woman there who was both straight and single. It was fun anyway, though, and I reaffirmed the fact that I don't like vodka (it was a James Bond-themed party, so of course everybody was drinking martinis).

From there we went to a party in JP, at which there were about a zillion people, most of whom I at least know by sight by now. I enjoyed myself immensely and wound up coming home at 2:00 Sunday morning. (Most of the reason I enjoyed myself so much revolves around the fact that I was wearing that black velvet halter top and reveling in being sexy for the first time in ages. It surprised me how many people didn't know I have a tattoo down my spine.)

Yesterday I woke up at 8:30 fully intending to take a nap sometime during the day. It never happened, though. I went to see The Two Towers for the second time, so now I've seen it once to be blown away and once to enjoy it. Then I got home and hung around and ignored the dishes in the sink until I couldn't stand them any more. Liz came home and packed some more stuff and we hung around and watched Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines, which I recommend to anyone who hasn't seen it, and Muppet Treasure Island.

I've started making a list of things I'm going to have to buy, and it's looking like I should just write "Kitchen" on it. We're losing the table, the butcher block table, most of the eating bowls, most of the mugs, probably most of the mixing bowls, 2/3 of the plates, etc. etc. I wish I had thought of that when everybody was asking me what I wanted for Christmas.

Regardless of everything else, Merry Christmas, everybody.

Gin was mentioned, but never deployed.

I'm not too fond of the Vodka Martinis myself.

It wasn't hundreds, it was THOUSANDS.

Or it sounded like it anyway.
