Jun. 18th, 2005 10:07 amI suppose wood chippers have their uses. Otherwise you end up with branches all over the place when you take down a tree. However, why it was necessary to start up a wood chipper with a loose engine belt somewhere in its innards at the condo complex diagonally up the street at 9:00 this morning is beyond me. Because of the loose belt, it screams when it isn't roaring. After fifteen minutes, I decided it wasn't going to go away, and got up. They only seem to run the silly thing between 6 and 9 PM on weekdays, for some reason. They took down four trees over there sometime early this week.
Last night I had dinner with some friends, all of whom are from various European countries. We ended up talking about everything under the sun, including news, The Daily Show, the European Union Constitution and what's wrong with France and the Netherlands, what's on TV, what was on TV when we were in high school, what went on in high school in general, soccer, family dynamics, My, How You've Grown festivals, and higher education. I haven't had a conversation like that in ages. It was a lot of fun, and really interesting stuff. If you want to see cultural differences, go to a high school in a foreign country.
Ahhhh, I think they've either finished with the wood chipper, or it finally broke down for good. If it still works, I hope they give it Sundays off. In any case, the silence is deafening.
