cooking, theoretical and practical
Aug. 28th, 2005 05:28 pmBased on a conversation I had this afternoon, I now want to try making red bean and orange (or orange peel) ice cream. I'm not sure which would work better. Probably orange peel, because it would be less sweet Anyway, if it worked at all, it would have to be called Uncle Beanfellow, after a comic strip and an orange tabby cat. According to the comic strip, Uncle Beanfellow was apparently married to Auntie Fudgenut, but ice cream-wise, Auntie Fudgenut isn't that much of a challenge. The feline Auntie Fudgenut is a calico, so I suppose vanilla with dark chocolate lumps and caramel and almonds in it would suffice.
I made popovers this morning, and they puffed up marvelously well, but they wouldn't let go of the pan for love or money. Next time, more oil and less flour when I grease the pan, I think. (Definitely, because next time I want to put cheese in the popovers, and cheese holds onto things too.) I soaked the pan for a couple of hours and then went at it with a bottle brush and a sponge. That was more work than I wanted, but the popovers were quite tasty.
