Jan. 13th, 2003 09:59 amHere's the long version of this weekend:
Friday night Liz's parents came over to help her pack things, and I got a little help moving miscellaneous bits and pieces out of my room into the china cabinet and the closet. Most of the stuff I moved was kitsch from the mantel and the sweaters I had piled on the floor because they wouldn't fit gracefully in the closet in my room.
Saturday, The Move happened. We started by taking the rabbit cage apart and packing that. The poor fuzz face was extremely confused; she kept sitting where her cage had been with a bewildered look on her face. Eventually I went over to the new place with her in a bag and we assembled the old cage and put her in that, in the sunroom, so she'd be out of the way. Then I went back home to see about moving my own furniture, but that didn't happen for a while. By the time I got around to seeing about my own stuff, it had already been moved out of my old room. I stuck my head in, pointed out a few things that weren't mine, and then went off to see about getting more stuff out of the first-floor front room.
Somewhere around lunchtime, pizza happened at the new place, so we went over and ate, and then I hung around and helped unload the rest of the truck. When the truck was empty, we took it back for the bed, the dishwasher, the TV cart, etc., and then took it to Brookline to pick up a couch. I think helping to get the dishwasher down from the second floor was what finally made me start to get TIRED. Anyway, we went back to the new place, unloaded the bits from the truck, and then hung around some more while the really vital stuff got unpacked. I got to the point where I either had to keep moving or stop working entirely, so I got a ride back home and started to put my room in some sort of order.
I pretty much left the furniture where it was, although I made some minor adjustments. Then I got the stereo set up and started unpacking boxes of books. I got all but one box unpacked and then I just had to quit (see previous entry) and eat something (which turned out to be a box of rice pilaf, since we didn't have anything else.)
Yesterday I unpacked the last book box, got most of the rest of the random stuff off the floor, went through the pile of magazines for the collage I've got in the works, did laundry and went grocery shopping. I still haven't touched the closet, and I really wish today had been trash day, because when the housekeeper came this morning the place was in what you might call a state, and I hate having stuff all over the place in her way.
Here's the rest of the list of wishes:
That my shoulders didn't still hurt
That I had gotten around to putting down the rug in my room so it could be vacuumed
That this had been a long weekend so I could have time to finish organizing
That I could get a kitchen table up to Boston from CT just by wishing for one
That it was the weekend after next, by which point I might have a brain again
My services seem to be required to price an LCD projector, so off I go. I hope everybody had a pleasant weekend.
