one foot in front of the other

After dim sum this afternoon, I decided it was too nice to go home and be indoors, so I took off walking. After not finding garam masala in the Chinatown Super 88 and deciding not to go to the movies just yet. I went down Boylston St to Arlington St, went down the side of the Public Garden until I hit Comm Ave, went down Comm Ave until I hit Kenmore, and then went down Beacon St to St. Mary's. At the Economy Hardware there, I discovered that apparently nobody sells plain old suction cup hooks any more (which is silly; how else am I supposed to hang things on windows?). After that I walked down to Coolidge Corner, intending to see about catching a bus (except I got sucked into Brookline Booksmith, which always happens when they leave the door open. At least I didn't actually buy anything.). Then I remembered there's an Indian grocery store on Harvard St between Coolidge Corner and Brookline Village. Aha, says I, and goes there, and discovers spices and legumes I've never heard of, and garam masala. Then, since I was about a block and a half from the Stop & Shop anyway, I went and dealt with the rest of my (short) grocery list, and THEN got on a bus.
All in all I think it was about a four-mile walk. I decided somewhere between Kenmore and St. Mary's that the plan was to walk until I got tired of it, and then stop. I suppose I could have walked home from the Stop & Shop, but that would have been less fun than the rest of the day previous had been, and why spoil a perfectly good day for the sake of proving a point that doesn't need it?
A propos of absolutely nothing, chartreuse and tonic is very nice.
