Stayed home on Friday night (could have gone to Arisia, but didn't feel like it, and besides it was bloody freezing cold out), and decided I really don't like what I've written for my grad school application writing sample, so I should redo it.

Saturday I went to Arisia, wandered around a little, bought two prints from the art show, found a silver ring I loved which they didn't have in my size, went into the ballroom at 2:30 and didn't come out again until 11:00. I started off by being Patrick's spare brain for the masquerade rehearsal, and then went and wrapped myself around a camera tripod for the actual masquerade. I've discovered that the house right camera position is really boring; you keep the camera on the podium all night. Even after halftime, when I finally got the camera loosened up on the tripod enough to move it, I didn't really get to. Last year I was on the house left camera, and that was more fun.

After the masquerade and associated silliness, I changed clothes and went off to see if I could remember which floor the tech party was on. It only took me three tries and a phone call to the hotel front desk to get the right floor, which is what I get for being tired and dehydrated and trying to think. Anyway, I got up to the right floor, finally, and was sitting on the sofa in the elevator lobby trying to rediscover my brain, and along came Denis, so I talked to him for a while, and then went to the party. This year I stopped drinking after my obligatory half inch of Scotch.

Anyway, I hung around at the party, and ran into somebody I was in karate classes at Oberlin with, and in general had fun, and I don't think I made a complete ass of myself this year. The party started breaking up somewhere after 2:00 since security came by and said "Are you all still here? Go elsewhere." At that point it wasn't really worth going to the other party I was considering, so Liz and Matt and I decided we were going to go home. I got offers of crash space from several people, but my featherbed was calling me. I got home at 3:00ish.

Sunday, Hillary borrowed my T pass to go back and win some art she had bid on, and I stayed home since I would have needed the pass to go anywhere useful. It turned out she was gone until dinnertime, so I didn't get anything useful accomplished yesterday, but that's all right.

So far today, I have gone and bought us some more silverware and a phone that actually works, come home, showered, done laundry and had lunch. Now I go make Hillary a birthday cake, and possibly go to the grocery store, and work some more on my writing sample. For a day off, this is turning into quite the useful day.
