and so it goes
Dec. 27th, 2005 09:28 amI said I was coming back today, but I lied. I'm coming back tomorrow. I didn't feel like I'd seen enough of my parents yet, and they both have to work today anyway.
Yesterday we went up to NH to have a family get-together with my grandfather in the assisted-living community. (Place? Facility? What do you call one of those things?) My youngest aunt and uncle and their kids brought their new puppy (black lab crossed with boxer, three months old, name of Murphy). Murphy stayed on his leash, but the other end wasn't always being held by anybody. At one point he was being obnoxious, so I got hold of the leash and got his attention and told him to sit, and he sat. My cousin J, who's 8, looked at me like I had performed a miracle and said "HOW did you DO that?" I said you had to sound like you were a little bit mad, and make Murphy think he was going to be in trouble if he didn't do what you told him. I don't know if J understood that, but it was amusing anyway. I guess some of having a dog for fourteen years stays with you, even though Fido was put to sleep when I was a junior in high school.
We had such a low-key Christmas that we never even got around to decorating the two-foot artificial tree Mom got out of the attic. We've all been using our energy on other things, and we didn't have much left for holiday spirit, I guess. Anyway, we did have BLTs for lunch on the 25th, so tradition has been upheld.
Anybody else at loose ends for New Year's Eve?
