something different
Jun. 24th, 2006 10:00 pmRight. Not moving this year.
In order to get out of at least the credit card debt, I'm looking for a second job (I doubt I'm going to get enough translation work if I ever get any). Anybody know anyplace looking for evening and weekend help?

not so much a place as a strategy
Date: 2006-06-25 12:47 pm (UTC)For example, GYMS. I've been working part-time at gyms for years. At the front desk, almost everyone has a full-time job, can't afford a gym membership, need the extra cash. But if you're not interested in the gym membership, it loses its appeal and quickly becomes annoying.
Arts & crafts stores, Trader Joe's/Whole Foods, your favorite retail store, coffee/tea shops, anyplace like that is going to have employee turnover (they're always looking) and possibly DISCOUNTS. Just don't spend your check there, which can be easy to do :) Don't take a job like this unless they offer you some discount or benefit (or just amazing pay). Unless you dig high stress and the moderately extra pay, I'd avoid fast food joints, there's really nothing satisfying about working for places like that unless you plan to become a manager.
So yeah, most of my experience lies within the service jobs. But perhaps you can think of some places that you can apply to that fit your own interests. I've worked second/third jobs most of my working life, and some very interesting ones, usually just by thinking about what I'd like to do next. Take the time to find something good. Then march right up to your target place and ask if are hiring! I've had tremendous success doing exactly that, even got a job teaching at a technical college that way. Be bold!
Good luck finding a good second job!
