dchenes: (hat)
[personal profile] dchenes
OK, now I REALLY need a new battery for my camera.

[livejournal.com profile] whuffle and I went out cow-hunting today. (By which I mean Cow Parade cows, not actual cows.) We found 52 of the 117 cows (the Back Bay/Hynes/Newbury St./Copley ones), and my camera died after nine cows' worth of pictures. Fun stuff, though, and some of the cows are gorgeous. We ended up with a couple of detours, one of which involved me in a very silly hat (hence the new icon).

This weekend, [livejournal.com profile] kaasirpent's consumerism bug bit me. That's the only explanation I can come up with for going to the Apple store in search of an AC charger for my iPod, and coming home with the charger, a copy of Civ IV for Mac, and a copy of Serenity. That was actually on Saturday, when I went out doing errands and ended up hauling a dresser down the street in Brighton with [livejournal.com profile] whuffle and [livejournal.com profile] halleyscomet, on a makeshift conveyance (which I christened Osbert) consisting of plywood, office-furniture casters, rock-climbing slings and carabiners.

What I've seen of Civ IV so far is pretty impressive. It's enormous (2.5 GB), but it's nifty. It seems to have fixed some of the things I found annoying about Civ III, and has added a mess of new stuff (like religions, and the fact that it doesn't take you forever to discover new technology). There are a couple of things I wish it wouldn't do (one perspective would be nice, instead of the zooming in and out it seems to like to do), and a couple of things I wish it would do and doesn't (in Civ II, you could have several cities building the same Wonder, and whichever ones didn't get it done first would switch over to building other Wonders instead, or build smaller improvements almost instantly). I'm definitely taking the Moose when I go on vacation. If it rains, I know exactly what I'm going to do; sleep a lot, and play Civ IV.

I think it's time to go to bed, considering that I was up at 7:30 this morning and hiked all over the place this afternoon, and my legs and my eyes are tired.
