Ten thousand curses on people who live on the middle of a steep hill and don't clear off their sidewalks. On Gardner St. this morning, I had a choice between black ice with snow on it and black ice without.

Oh, absolutely.

Now if they'd only learn how to use ice melt, as opposed to pouring huge piles of it on the sidewalk at three-foot intervals...not that it's going to do much for most of an inch of ice anyway, except make it wet. Ice without snow beats wet ice.
