Apr. 20th, 2003 09:23 pmAh, the weekend. Let's see...
On Friday night Hillary and I went to CT, and I stayed overnight at her parents' place in Norwich. Their family cat, who weighs nine pounds, didn't weigh that much last time I saw her, and looks enormous.
Saturday morning my father came and got me, and I got to my parents' place, hung around some, went for a walk, read most of "The Hawkline Monster" (which is VERY odd), took a nap for a couple of hours, and woke up in time to be coherent when a family friend came over for dinner. Much fun was had by all.
Today I hung around some more, following which we had 13 people over for "dinner". Easter in our family is an excuse to make bread shaped like bunnies to give to friends, and an excuse not to have ham on Sunday. My father got sick of having ham for Easter years ago, and we've had lasagna instead ever since. This year it was quite a good lasagna.
Anyway, after lunch and the inevitable food coma, Hillary and I packed up to come back to Boston. We had just hit the VFW Parkway, at about 6:15, when the car stopped. As in, wouldn't start, wouldn't even think about turning over, wouldn't do a damn thing. So we call AAA, and tell them we're stuck on the VFW Parkway and blocking traffic.
After about 20 minutes of blocking traffic, a couple of kind souls pushed us into the driveway of the VA Hospital. We then sat there for another hour and 20 minutes or so, until the tow truck showed up. I don't even want to think about how long it would have taken them if we hadn't said we were blocking traffic. Anyway, they put the car on the truck and we all piled into the front seat, and here we are, home. Tomorrow the car gets towed back to the mechanic who saw it last Monday and said there was nothing wrong with it.
Without adventures, life would be boring, but I have very seldom been so glad to see a vehicle with flashing lights on it.
