dchenes: (HELP)

I'm getting too old for this.

On Friday night I went to a dinner party, and came back at 11:45. Went to bed at midnight-ish, actually got to sleep around 12:30. Got up again at 8:00, left the house at 8:45 to go help some friends who were moving. Spent the morning packing the moving truck and the afternoon chasing around after a 2-year-old. Came home at 4:00, ran through the shower, had some spaghetti, and went off again at 6:00 to a bachelorette party that started in Teele Square at 7:30 and proceeded to Avalon from there. Came home from Avalon at 1:45 Sunday morning and managed to let all three cats out on my way in. Rounded up the cats again, couldn't get them out of my bedroom, let them stay there and got to sleep at 2:30ish.

Sunday, I woke up at 11:00, decided that everything between my shoulders and my knees hurt, put on some clothes, lazed around for an hour and a half or so and then went out to do errands with Hillary. Errands accomplished at 2:30, came home, had some lunch, tried unclogging the bathtub drain (which didn't work) and fell asleep until 5-something. Woke up again with stomachache. Drank a glass of water while lying down, felt somewhat better, got up and watched miscellaneous TV until 10:00, and went to bed again.

Today, my right knee hurts (I slipped in the shower on Saturday), and my shoulders hurt, and I wish I hadn't had to get up this morning. Unfortunately I'm taking large parts of next week off, so I'd feel guilty taking any of this week off. I still have to buy train and bus tickets for all my gallivanting around, starting Friday.

Welcome to my life. Is it naptime yet?

Thank you so much for theWidget wrangling on Saturday, I really appreciated it.

And that is an *AWESOME* icon.

You're welcome!

The icon makes me laugh, which is generally what I need when I feel like that.

This is why siestas were invented, although it didn't sound like you even had time for that! So how was the bachlorette party? I find those sorts of parties to be really interesting social events (from a distance mostly).

The party seemed very mass-produced. By which I mean the whole agenda was based around things somebody invented to make money with. We had run-of-the-mill embarrassing games, and favors shaped like male anatomy, and the bride-to-be went out dancing with a cheesy veil on her head. When we got to Avalon, somebody produced a pre-made list of embarrassing things for the bride-to-be to have to do, all of which involved different men.

If it had been my party, I would have gone out for a really good dinner, and gone dancing without the list, and enjoyed myself. I could live very happily without the embarrassing games and all the other pre-packaged cliches.

I hope none of them were things that could have resulted in the groom calling off the wedding!

That's precisely why I find them so fascinating - from a distance! Otherwise fairly sensible people suddenly seem driven to fulfill the gaudiest stereotypes. Sure, if getting drunk and doing the whole 'last night of freedom' thing (which I find somewhat revolting as reflecting the idea of matrimony as a prison-like enclosure) is what you want, more power to you. But most people don't really give much of a thought to the whole penis-fetish thing going on.

We'll make sure that if you ever have such a party, that no penis-shaped favors are involved.
