I have GOT to teach Lily to read digital clocks. She woke me up at 2:15 this morning and proceeded to make a pest of herself until 5:30, at which point I got annoyed, turned the light on and clipped another three of her claws before she figured out what I was doing. (I got her but good when I turned the light on, too. She was looking right at it, and sat there blinking for a while.) Then she let me sleep for another hour.

It would've been a lot more convenient if today had been the Veterans Day holiday, instead of next Monday.

Hmmm. I suppose you could keep some masking tape at the ready, roll it inside out, and when she's really being a pain, stick it to her feet, nose, shoulder, etc. so she has something to keep her occupied that isn't keeping you awake.

I suspect that if I did that, she'd find a way to stick the tape to me. Even if she didn't, she'd still be rampaging all over the place trying to get the tape off.

If I can get the rest of her claws cut, we'll both be happier. She won't get her feet stuck in everything and I won't get scratched every time she tries to pat me on the eyebrow.

I trained my last cat, Tversky, to never wake me up. I did so by throwing him across the room every time he did. It wasn't an intentional training method so much as a side effect of being really cranky when I get woken up, but it did work... he learned to curl up in the nook of my arm and wait for me to wake up normally, instead.

It also helped that I never fed Tversky immediately after I woke up (usually, cat-feeding was the last thing I did before heading out to work).

Granted, Tversky wasn't as intrinsically nocturnal as many cats are, so I was lucky there.

oof! not funny. must teach cat the meaning of time, and the need to let their masters sleep.
