all the news that isn't news

I need a day off that the rest of the world doesn't also have off. I get a lot of things done on days like that, especially if I act like it's a regular day and get up at the normal time and start accomplishing things at 9:00. Probably ain't gonna happen until March, though. At least I have a week off starting March 31. I just have to get there from here.
Since I got paid on Friday, I paid bills yesterday. One of these years I won't need a calculator to do that. (The calculator is for figuring out how much money I can send to the credit card without getting socked with bank fees for not having a $500 minimum balance in the checking account.) This month I decided I don't care, and pretty much bankrupted myself for the next two weeks. Maybe I shouldn't do my taxes until I get paid again. I'm expecting to owe taxes this year. Sigh.
The fish head experiment didn't work at all. I'm beginning to wonder if Lily is actually a cat. I think she knows she's a cat, but she's got the most limited ideas about what constitutes cat food of any cat I've ever encountered. So far she'll eat dry food, tuna for feline consumption, the water from tuna for human consumption, and water chestnuts. She also likes to chew on my fingers, but I discourage that.
For future reference, when buying a brand new wool rug, they ain't kidding when they say it will shed for a while. My living room rug filled up the entire vacuum cleaner bag and six inches of the far end of the hose with blue fuzz in three vacuumings. No wonder the vacuum cleaner wasn't working properly. The rug is still pretty much exactly what I wanted, although it's also still torn in six places and I wish I could find instructions somewhere on how to fix it. Most of the results on Google are Oriental rug cleaners/repair places. Going to the ATISA conference comes before that in the budget, and I'm already not going to the ATISA conference.
It's not that I've got overwhelming amounts of debt right now; it's just that I seem to have hit a plateau. No matter how much money I throw at it, the amount never seems to get much smaller. I could fix that if I tried. I should start trying (again).
