Jesus H. Roosevelt Christ!

I have reached the point at work at which I absolutely, positively CANNOT fit one more thing to keep track of into my day (or my head) anywhere. In fact, I can't even make a coherent list of all the things I'm supposed to be keeping track of.

I almost just burst into tears in a staff meeting.

I could go home now because I got here at 7:10 this morning, but there are too many things I Must Get Done Today, Because We Asked You To, That's Why.

*whimper*

Sounds like it is really WAY past time to talk to your boss about redistributing some of your work load. You are and have been doing more than your share for a long time now and she knows it. I'm sure she would rather have you do a good job at fewer things and not burn out.

She knows, but there's nothing we can concretely do to sort it out yet. She said "we really have got to do something about you", and then disappeared off to a doctor's appointment.

The problem is the promotion criteria rollout events. As of last week, I was suddenly in charge of food, room setup, assembly of materials, and A/V requirements for two 50-person events, one of which was this morning and the other of which is on Monday. Over the next two weeks I have three other events offsite, which I have to go be administrative support for. These are on top of the 10 final committee meeting packets, 3 search committee packets, February SOP, committee meeting scheduling I can't hand off yet, and some other things I'm forgetting. All of which would be quite enough to be going on with.

Could you politely suggest to your boss that someone else do the catering orders for the events?

You might also be able to make a list of what order the packets should be assembled in and have someone else do the actual assembly? That goes ditto for the other packets.

And you might want to ask your boss to get a part time temp for a week or two, just to do the things that you CAN hand off, like paperwork assembly or running things to different hospitals.

I'm sorry this is being difficult and crushing you. I wish I could help. Best I can do is to offer to get together and listen so you can vent or make dinner for you or something. I have more Muppets episodes too if that helps???

Unfortunately I'm it for the criteria events because I seem to have a higher workload threshold than the other people who could do things with them. I've just hit my limit, though. The aforementioned 10 committee meetings are all happening between next Friday and mid-March.

The translation here is that you're not yet willing to seriously push back on this - despite the fact that if you're struggling with tears at work, you've probably passed that threshold some time back. Whuff has some good suggestions. I hope you take her up on them.
