I don't know how the hell I managed it, but I seem to have 84 hours of vacation time I haven't used yet. That's a lot of unused vacation. Maybe I ought to do what some of my colleagues are doing and use up vacation time by taking long weekends.

I'm seriously considering getting another cat. I think Lily needs company of her own species, because she's been restless and, at the same time, more or less glued to my ankle lately. The pet store in Brighton has kittens right now, and one of them is an extremely cute calico, but I am not paying $200 for a kitten that only has half of its shots. Does anybody have any favorite cat shelters?

Can't say that I've got a favorite cat shelter but I would actually advocate going to Animal Rescue League or MSPCA and carefully checking over their cats and kittens. The smaller shelters are mostly no-kill which means that the cats in them have a better likelyhood of continuing to live regardless of whether or not they have been adopted. SPCA and ARL are both kill shelters and high volume which means that some euthenasia occurs. Yes, any cat considered for adoption from one of those shelter should be thoroughly examined by an outside vet before the adoption is finalized, but giving a home to an animal that might otherwise be killed is worth considering....
