I'm getting to the point where I'm going to have to flip a coin between cat-shelter frustration (apparently the fact that I already have a cat makes me an incorrigible serial axe murderer where shelters are concerned) and Craigslist frustration ("Free cat looking for good home!", but the home that doesn't want it is in Tyngsboro. Or Framingham. Or Haverhill. Or...)

I went to the pet store last night and did not buy any kittens. I did buy a single-cat carrier, though. That way I don't have to haul anybody around on foot in the medium-dog-size carrier.

OK, I shut up now. I'm reasonably certain that the drama llama will be here any minute to take me away.

Second what Siercia says. Let distance not be the impediment between you and the prospective cat. If you are interested, let those of us willing to help know when and where and we'll figure out how to make it happen.
