Since I was a teenager, I've had recurring dreams with bridges in them.

It used to be that I was in a car falling off a bridge, and I knew I was going to drown because I wouldn't be able to get out of the car. That stopped eventually, and then I started having a dream about being on the Mystic drawbridge on foot when it went up, and ending up hanging in the air off the top of it until it went back down again.

In grad school I reverted to falling off bridges in cars again. It was the Gold Star bridge in New London (sort of; it was miles long) and they were rebuilding it and there was a big hole in the middle.

Last night I had a completely new variation, in which I was standing in a big room under the Mystic drawbridge, and I was in charge of opening the doors to let water in after somebody else pushed the button for the bridge to go up. I had to pull a string to open the doors to let water into the room. If I shut the doors too soon, the bridge wouldn't go up the right way. I was never afraid of drowning because only about two feet of water wanted to come in, and there was a four-foot drop into the room. After the third time, I shut the doors too soon and somebody else got fired, and that's when I woke up.

That's the second dream with water in it I've had in a week, now that I think about it. The first one involved living in a lighthouse during a freshwater flood, and having to move five or six kittens up a level in the lighthouse whenever a wave got up to the window of the level I was on. I remember big green waves that looked like lime jello coming past the windows. No bridges in that dream, though.

(And yes, I think watching the episode of Mythbusters in which they sank a car in a swimming pool several times did help with the nightmares. I haven't had that one since that episode.)

I have a couple things to do this weekend and was wondering if you wanted to get together to hang out. I could really use some out-of-the-house time and some time to not be mom.

Okie doke. Will call from home once I've got some desperately needed laundry and dishes running. No matter how dilligent I am about both, they still keep getting ahead of me.
