in which I fail to come home with a new watch

I had a lovely swan boat ride this morning, and then went off in search of a new watch. I had three requirements: I need a watch that has marks for each hour, and tells me what the date is, and does not have a metal band that tries to take all the hair off my wrist. Apparently you can't get all of those things at once from anywhere that's open on Sundays. So I came home and ordered this. Which wasn't exactly what I was looking for, but it was a case of "I'll know it when I see it". And when I saw this, I said "Yeah, that." I've always wanted to try one of those watchbands.

I bought a men's Skagen for Halleyscomet a couple years ago as a birthday present. Everyone I know who owns one likes it and says it doesn't pull hair even if it's a mesh metal band. Halleyscomet likes his quite a bit but has a bad habit of accidentally bashing it against hard objects. After 2 crystal replacements in 2 years, we finally just got a plastic lens instead.
