Last week I crossed chicken noodle soup with chicken pot pie. (Worked quite well, too; I made chicken pot pie innards and put them over the widest egg noodles I could find.)
This week, I'm crossing bolognese sauce with chili. It would be chili if it didn't have mushrooms in it, and bolognese sauce (more or less) if it didn't have chili powder and beans in it.
This week's mutant is the result of my starting out thinking I was going to make shrimp and mushrooms and broccoli for lunch this week and then developing a craving for chili before I defrosted the shrimp. The broccoli can sit around for a little while, but if I don't use mushrooms within three days of buying them, I forget about them until they get furry.
Speaking of furry (and mutants), Lily let me brush out a mat in the undercoat right in the middle of her back the other day. Granted, I was being pretty careful not to yank on it too much, but she just sat there and let me untangle it. Most of the other cats I know (including Snip) would be gone the minute I started trying to figure out what it was, never mind brushing it out. I guess Lily is My Cat, and that's all there is to it. Maybe someday I'll stop trying to figure out how that happened.
