I spent a couple of hours this morning going through the MLA database looking for articles for one of my classes. The damn thing wouldn't save the list of articles I had marked, so now I get to go back through all 740 articles again. GRR.

On the other hand, I did make some progress last night with Semiotics. We're not talking about Peirce any more, which is good, because I'm mostly convinced he was being deliberately obtuse. There might be hope for me after all.

My neck is no longer sore, which is nice of it.

The telemarketers have found me. I signed up for the national do-not-call list, but that doesn't kick in until at least December. I've gotten four calls this morning, all trying to sell me things. I've stopped answering the phone for the day. I'll call people back, but I'm not talking to any more telemarketers.

I miss stitching, but I can't afford to buy linen any more, and having done stitching on a pair of linen pants, I miss evenweave 32-count linen. Or any count, really, since everything I've ever stitched except the pants has been 32-count, and I was getting bored with it. I'm still sort of searching for my next big project. I have half an idea for one I would have to design myself, but I can't find my graph paper. I also can't find my glass mobile (flying pigs), which annoys me no end because I saw it get packed in Boston and it seems to have vanished. GRR, again.

It is not, however, raining today, which is a good thing. I've got both living room windows wide open and the A/C off, and the breeze coming in is nice.

Oh, look, it's lunchtime. After lunch I'll tackle the MLA database again. At least it's better than being bored. I'm getting back into this whole "time management" idea, which I sort of let slip since the last time I was a student. It's different when you have a job that doesn't follow you home the way classwork does.

Let's see if I can eat tomato salad without getting it all over my white shirt.

so what's your solution to the confusion that is semiotics?

This week, it's to not read Peirce any more. Saussure is just as complex, but somewhat clearer, at least to me. I might get an understandable 20-page paper written in this class after all.

As I said, talk to jilly about the subject. she might be able to give you a clue. As for the flying piggies, they were in one of the natural color check-weave bags that those curtains we both have came in. And I think the box they went into had a bunch of misc stuff and was labled George. Help any?

It does indeed help; I forgot they were in the curtain bag. I knew they had either been in George or in Phred, but since both of those boxes are not only empty, but flattened and in storage, that wasn't getting me anywhere.

Now all I have to do is get them untangled...
