Last Friday, we had a thunderstorm. Unfortunately, sometimes incipient thunderstorms make my brain stop working. What I should have done was take the bus home, get the granny cart, go back to Whole Foods and buy blueberry bushes for Dad, and take them home in the cart. What I actually did was get off the bus at Whole Foods, buy the blueberry bushes, find someplace to stash them, run home for the cart, run back to Whole Foods, load up the cart and take the blueberry bushes home in it. (Mostly. I bought four bushes and only three fit in the cart, so I carried the fourth in the hand that wasn't occupied.) So I got a lot of exercise and got thunderstormed on because I didn't have a third hand for an umbrella, but I did come home with four blueberry bushes. I put them on the porch and they got watered on Saturday by virtue of the sudden downpour in the afternoon. (I got absolutely drenched, because a bus "shelter" has three sides if you're lucky, and the fourth side was where the rain was blowing in from.)
On Sunday I went and collected the Zipcar to take the blueberry bushes to Noank. The car in question was a Hyundai Veloster, and I HATED it. The seat was in the wrong place (I am short; my head should not almost touch the driver's side visor), the steering wheel obscured everything on the speedometer between 50 and 90, there was no visibility out the back, and the trunk had a built-in cargo cover that restricted the height of anything you put in it, so the blueberry bushes had to ride in the back seat. But I got to Noank and spent a fairly pleasant day there, including a completely unplanned talk with my Fairly Godmother for an hour and a half. (I don't have actual godparents, and she's 80 and has four sons and no daughters, so she's my Fairly Godmother.) I probably could have stayed there until dinnertime, but I had to get the car back to Brighton by 6:00. Which I did, with a whole 20 minutes to spare.
Yesterday the thunderstorms came back, and I discovered (again) that Snip won't go to sleep until the storm has been over for at least half an hour. That screws up her sleep schedule, and she goes puffball hunting in the wee hours of the morning and screams about it when she's caught the puffball. So I had to get up at 1:30 and find her, and take the puffball away.
Today we had the last P&R meetings until September. I'm glad I don't have to do that again for a while. Half of me wants to go out and get Chinese food, and the other half wants to lie around in the bathtub for a couple of hours and then go to bed. (I actually considered eating Chinese food in the bathtub, which says something about the sort of day this has been.) I think the Chinese food will have to wait until tomorrow, at which point I won't have been wearing the wrong shoes all day.
