It apparently has decided to RAIN, as opposed to the light rain I walked home from the library in. Which is fine with me, because this way I don't have to worry about the library books getting rained on. I do, however, have to worry about my inkjet-printed essay outline when I go back out for my class later.

I hate outlines. I've never used a formal outline to write a paper. It just doesn't work. I get so wound up thinking about things to put in the outline that I lose all motivation to write the paper, which is what the outline's supposed to be helping with. Except it doesn't. It's just another step between thought process and useful output. Usually, I write papers by thinking for a while and then actually starting to write the paper, and deleting and adding and rearranging and swearing at it in essay form, not in outline form. I find it easier that way.

It also doesn't help that the French Research and Writing class is being held with the Russian Research and Writing class today, so I had to write the outline in French and then translate it into English, and every time I changed something in one language, I had to change it in the other. Leapfrogging between languages in order to come up with something I'm not happy with in the first place definitely didn't make it any easier.

Somebody who had better hope I never find them has absconded with the library's only, supposedly non-circulating, copy of Routledge's Encyclopedia of Translation Studies. Which won't be a horrendous problem until next week, but is a minor problem working on being a major problem this week.

My parents are coming to visit me at the end of October. This is a good thing. They're flying to Detroit, spending a couple of days in Ann Arbor with my sister, and then all three of them are coming down here for the weekend. I'm looking forward to it, but it's relegated to the back of my brain for the moment.

In the front of my brain is, what am I going to do about money? I applied for a real job today; if I get it, I go back to being a secretary. If I don't get it, I have to think up something else. The credit card bill showed up over the weekend and the heart attack commenced.

I think the gloomy weather is doing bad things to my mood. Time to pull out the Blues Traveler CD again.

[livejournal.com profile] navraze has an excellent idea for a way of outlining that doesn't squish your brain. I'll see if I can get her to outline it for when she feels better.
