Dec. 12th, 2013 02:04 pmBiliary colic is not fun. I knew I was in trouble when I hadn't eaten dinner by 7:30 last night, since my gall bladder seems to like regular meals, but at least I managed to get home before the worst of it hit me. And at least this time it was only fifteen minutes of lying on the floor. Fortunately, the gall bladder's days are numbered, and the number of the counting shall be five as of today. (Under normal circumstances, of course, five is Right Out.) I'm waiting to hear back from the surgeon's office to confirm exactly when the surgery will be, five days from now.
I also discovered that as much as I might have wanted them, it was probably not a good idea to eat an entire quart container of salt-brined half-sour pickles in one sitting last Saturday. The two pounds I gained as of Monday morning were probably water. But the pickles absolutely hit the spot, whichever spot it was. And as a bonus, they made the gall bladder shut up grumbling at me.
I went to a talk yesterday about online courses at HMS, and the sorts of things you can do with them, and now I've got all sorts of ideas that probably won't work but might be interesting to consider. Since HMS and HSDM are both reworking their curricula (again) as of 2015, maybe there are topics we can put online instead of having lectures on them. There's only so much room for lectures in any given course anyway. It's fun to stretch my brain in unaccustomed directions once in a while, though, so I'm coming up with all sorts of ideas about what we could put online if we wanted to. The trick is, since it's an open course, what would the general public be interested in? I don't think we could put denture fabrication courses online unless we said "DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME".
