dchenesIn the "I'm Sure There's A Lesson Here Somewhere" category, I learned that it takes about ten minutes to get a 10-person shuttle and driver arranged on less than 24 hours' notice. But I had to do it with my own personal credit card and eventually get reimbursed (and it's probably going to be a fairly serious chunk of change). And now I have to be at work at 7:00 tomorrow morning to wrangle people. I said the shuttle was leaving at 7:15, so anyone wanting to be on it MUST be there at 7:05. Which of course means somebody's going to amble up at 7:14:45 and give me a heart attack. Or 27 people are going to show up for a 10-person shuttle. Or...
But I think it will be a good retreat once we get there. The nice thing about having the whole curriculum up for grabs is that you can do things like take a third of the content of a third-year course and stick it into a couple of second-year courses, so that by the time you get to that third-year course, the students will have some idea what you're talking about already. That's what I'm going to have the course directors start thinking about. I got the basic science course directors to start doing that at a meeting last month, and they really got into it, and they were the ones I was worried about as being resistant to change.
Just get me through tomorrow and everything else is gravy until Christmas. Which is what I've been telling myself since mid-September. I hope I get any sleep tonight at all.
