Sep. 13th, 2018 06:58 pmToday should have been Friday, because it was rather 13th. Besides, I woke up convinced it was Friday, even though I knew that everything important I had to do today, I had to do because today was Thursday. But today was Friday as far as my brain was concerned.
In addition to being Thursday, the $220 of pizza I spent my very own money on (because you can't order food online with a tax-exempt credit card and not be charged tax anyway, and the finance office had a fit at me about that two weeks ago) arrived at 1:15 for a 12:00 - 1:00 meeting. Thou shalt not order delivery from Penguin, which is around the block for god's sake, so there's even less excuse for being that late. ODE had a very nice impromptu pizza party, and I'm getting reimbursed, but I felt terrible for the people who came to the meeting and had been promised lunch and didn't get any. My Italian ancestors are rolling in their graves.
Then I went to a waste of time for an hour and a quarter, also known as a meeting in which some people from Cambridge tried to show us how my.harvard would work for us and managed to show us all the ways it won't work for us (and couldn't show us anything that did work). For one thing, I still can't do course surveys with it at the level I need to (it will let me ask "please rate this lecturer", but not "this lecturer gave these lectures, please comment on any of them" so I know whether course content is being delivered in the right order), and for another, it doesn't like courses that don't have exactly the same thing at exactly the same time every year. If the pig jaw suturing lab session that was on Monday last year is on Thursday this year, the system will have a fit. We can't live with that. But the registrar loves it, and is pushing hard for us to spend $60K on a system that will only work for her. I am extremely annoyed. My boss is going to find out how annoyed I am.
On the positive side, which I can actually admit to now that I'm home and have had a lot of water and fed the cats so they stop being In The Way, I finally got my special-order scuba boots and they fit, and I bought a gear bag that isn't absolutely massive and is made of mesh so my gear can dry while it lives in the bag. Not that anything dried this week; I'm washing towels right now because they haven't been dry in three days. Hopefully David Epstein is right about better weather for the weekend.
