On Saturday I finally managed to get last week's laundry out of the dryer and do this week's laundry. It was a very low-expectation kind of day. I also went out and bought a lot of odds and ends at Trader Joe's, and discovered that I probably shouldn't buy mochi rice nuggets more than about once a month because I'll eat them in about five minutes, and won Civilization 5 as Sweden (I'm going through the whole list in alphabetical order by leader and playing all the ones I haven't played before. Gustavus Adolphus has come off the list. But playing in that order is somewhat amusing because it leads to one game as Gandhi to the next as Ghenghis Khan.).
I ran around for lots of yesterday afternoon, buying things. I went to Harvard Square looking for a cookbook I didn't find, but I did find some lunch. Then I got back on the bus and went to the dive shop and bought a computer (Suunto Zoop Novo, which they had to order for me) and a cutting tool so Dad can stop asking me if I have a knife yet. And then I went to Coolidge Corner and bought the cookbook at Brookline Booksmith, and went to Petco for kitty litter. Football can wait until it gets cold again, and anyway the Patriots didn't play until 8:30 and I wasn't going to watch that game anyway. I recorded it to watch tonight.
Yesterday I also finished reading A Gentleman in Moscow, which I mostly enjoyed. There was only one annoying character in it, and he was supposed to be annoying. I think my favorite quote was Rostov thinking about dueling with pistols, and deciding that the distance between participants should get longer as the offense gets less serious, with the least serious ones having one participant in Japan and the other in New York.
I suppose I really should read The Boys in the Boat so I can send it back to Noank one of these days. I've only had it kicking around since at least last summer.
