It was a good weekend for several reasons, among which were the weather and the things I got done.

On Saturday I did the grocery shopping and stuck my head in the bookstore, and found a used book I've sort of been looking for since the last time I read it (at least a year ago), when the copy I had was in danger of becoming a rubber-band book. This weekend I finally found an almost-new copy, so the rubber-band copy could be retired. Happy stuff.

Yesterday was the annual Allston/Brighton Outdoor Public Nuisance, and at about 1:15 I got tired of listening to the traffic backed all the way up Union St and honking at each other, so I went out. I went down to Washington Square and got on the T, and when I got off at St. Mary's I found the Jimmy Fund Walk. ARGH. Fortunately they were going to Copley, so I just dashed through them and took the back way to Landmark. I went there because that's where REI is, and I bought some drawstring wet/dry bags and an aluminum ring and a plain carabiner and a waterproof container for odds and ends and a couple of paint markers since the art store is right there too. The object of this game is to make my dive bag feel less like a junk drawer.

After that and a failed trip to Target (you'd think they'd have button batteries, wouldn't you?) I went to the movies and saw Ad Astra. It was worth seeing, but the more I think about it, the less cohesive it gets. It was more like several vignettes strung together than one plot. But it had Tommy Lee Jones and some very good special effects in it.

There were only two things I didn't like about this weekend: one was Amazon telling me they couldn't deliver my litter locker liners (possibly because Saturday was porch painting day and they wouldn't leave the box anywhere else), and the other was somebody's car alarm that went off several times between 4:00 and 5:30 or so. Whatever random critter or leaf or Canadian air molecule set it off will be sorry if I ever catch it. But at least I had been getting decent sleep before that.
