My first translation assignment this semester is a two-page chapter of a book set in a hospital. Therefore, I've been hunting all over the internet trying to find out exactly what it means if your blood pressure is 22 (it's high, but I need to know how high). Just when you think they can't do anything else differently in continental Europe...this calls for the Larousse Medicale if I can find it in the library. At least now I can say "high blood pressure" in French (hypertension arterielle, in case anybody cares).

Most of this weekend was occupied with watching it snow and doing a whole lot of not much. If I hadn't had tomorrow off, I would have been more productive. Since I do have tomorrow off, I'm going to have the rest of the cleaning fit, mostly involving cleaning the bathtub and the kitchen floor.

I wish I had been at Arisia this weekend, if for no other reason than I want to know what was in the masquerade and how the Great Rubber Duckie Hunt went. (I still think the duckies should go to Lunacon and fill up the entire hot tub, since the last time I went to Lunacon, the hot tub wasn't fit for human habitation in the first place, and the con is leaving that hotel next year anyway.) I have no idea what it's like to go to a con and not work there.

I should comb my hair out and wait until it dries a bit and then go to bed. That would be a lovely idea if I was actually tired. My eyes are tired, but my body and my brain are still awake.

I think I know where my white belt went. As far as I remember, it's in the basement in Brighton tying a quilt together so it fits in a trash bag. Oops. (This is a matter of etiquette more than anything else. An experienced martial artist going to a class in an unfamiliar style wears a white belt.)

Off to do battle with the wet hair.

So the karate you're going to is an unfamiliar style? What changes once you've gone there? Does the sensei/sifu decide where you fit?
