I think it's been every possible shade of cloudy today. The weather says "partly cloudy", and I can't say it's wrong, because in between iterations of cloudy, it's truly gorgeous out. The breeze I was desperately hoping for yesterday is here today. I may just have to go out for a long ramble sometime later. I haven't been up North Lincoln St yet. (Which is sort of sad because I live on South Lincoln St, but everywhere I go regularly involves going up to the intersection where the street name changes and turning either left or right.)

I ordered linen yesterday for my next project, and next semester's tuition bill showed up yesterday. The way this sort of thing usually works, I pay the tuition, and then it gets refunded when the financial aid office gets around to applying loans and scholarship to it. In the meantime, though, I'm out $1978 (which I haven't got, so my parents are out $1978).

I seem to have some sort of mental block against calling the Akron airport shuttle service and finding out what it'll cost to have them pick me up in Kent. I've been reminding myself to do it for a week now, and I always seem to either forget or find something else to do instead. I seem to have broken through the barrier of worrying about money, in a way I don't like. I find myself thinking "oh well, I have a credit card, I can buy this now anyway, it doesn't matter that I can't afford rent". Granted, I'm thinking this about buying groceries, not about new clothes or anything non-essential (I do need new clothes, though), but I don't like the thought anyway.

A random sunflower sprouted in the corner of my patio, and not only did I leave it alone, I've been watering it. We haven't had enough rain lately to keep it happy. I don't know why I'm bothering to keep it happy either, except that it amuses me.

I suppose I should figure out what sort of protein goes with couscous with apricots and almonds before it gets to be dinnertime. Fortunately that's not for quite a while yet.

I wonder if the terms "partly cloudy" and "partly sunny" have specific applications to meteorologists, or if it's just an optimist/pessimist "glass half full or half empty" kind of thing.

I always considered "partly cloudy" to mean "more sun than clouds" and "partly sunny" to mean "more clouds than sun". Therefore, today ought to have been called partly sunny.

Try lemon chicken with couscous almonds, and apricots. If you feel like it, throw a bit of vanilla and nutmeg in the couscous with the lemon. And if you are feeling kicky, try adding a little crushed pepper or ginger.

On second thought, no ginger. Its the wrong group of flavors to go with the rest of that stuff.

Hm. That could be good one of these days, but I'm more in a cumin/coriander/curry powder/paprika sort of mood. I don't know that any of those really go with almonds, but what the heck, I'm not pleasing anybody but me, and I can always throw it out if it's inedible.

Aahhh. I know that flavor group. Not a bad idea. Might want to add some cloves to it. Or maybe coat the almonds in spices. Yummy! Your are makning me wish for more than the tuna sandwich I had for lunch! (And the mystery sandwich I will have in the car for dinner.)

Oh well, at least I have blond Oreo cookies. Yeah, you read it right. Blond Oreos with white cookies and white cream.

It wound up being:

3 cloves of garlic
cumin
cardamom
paprika
ground cloves
salt
pepper
just enough oil to make it liquid

It's marinating as I type. I'm debating whether I should have put a skosh of vinegar in it too. Oh well, if it needs that I can add it later.
