Having very considerately not rained for the last week's worth of cloudy days, it is of course raining today. That wouldn't mean much of anything if I didn't absolutely have to do laundry today (my sister is showing up sometime Saturday en route home from Massachusetts, and staying overnight, and I don't have any clean towels).
Completely by accident, I found out that the unidentified bush across from my front door is, in fact, a trumpet vine. A very large trumpet vine. There was an article about weeds in the New York Times online yesterday, and it had a picture of a trumpet vine, and I said "Eureka!" I started reading the article in the first place because it had a picture of a pokeberry plant, and I have very fond memories of messing around with pokeberries. "Mess" is the operative word, because ripe pokeberries are bright screaming purple, and so is the juice you get when you squash them, and all sorts of fun can be had with pokeberries if you're a kid and you know not to eat them.
The linen I was waiting for arrived yesterday. I was sent more than I ordered, because a quarter yard only cost 18 cents more than what I needed, and came out to $15 even. So now I have a little extra linen to play with at some point, which is all good. The other good thing that came out of this is that I had been staring at the pattern and thinking there was something that looked wrong, but I couldn't figure out what. Yesterday I figured it out and fixed it, and now instead of looking at it and going ARGH, I look at it and think "That's better. Go me!" I love it when things work like that.
Hm. I need to buy some more fruit today, too. Time to make a list.
