Memo to self: it takes at least an hour to get to Central Square from Brigham Circle, even if it only takes about 40 minutes to get to Central Square from Roxbury Crossing. (I am not at rehearsal tonight, because I missed the bus to Andover by fifteen minutes. On the other hand, since I never did get around to giving them the $7 for the bus, I suppose it all works out in the end. I'm annoyed because what I'm missing is the dress rehearsal, with orchestra.)
I spent all day today reading stuff. Most of it was Word documents that had been produced in support of various committees' meetings, so now I've got about a third of a clue as to what goes on. I don't have an official job description; I have the one I was hired with, but it's fairly vague, and none of the staff assistants seem to have a specific job description yet. I think when they hire the last person (there's a temp there now), there's going to be a grand shaking-out of who exactly is responsible for what exactly, because there's no way in hell one person can do everything required for some of these committees.
After the BWH temp job, it's a shock to have Outlook and have it sitting there quietly not doing anything, instead of getting a gazillion emails.
I have my own cube, which contains a chair, a computer with flat screen monitor, a spare CRT monitor with fingerprints all over its screen, a very large box of spare cables and such, a phone, a legal pad, a steno pad, some post-its, a stapler, two pens and a highlighter, and six empty drawers. It does not contain a trash can, anything to keep pens in (other than drawers), anything resembling an inbox, or anything else useful. Methinks I'm going to hunt up a Staples catalog next week.
I really, truly, don't have to be in until 9:00, because nobody else is. I was there at 8:45 today and thought I was late, and I was the second person there. I guess I ought to set my head half an hour slower.
I'm just as glad I'm not in Andover, actually. It would've been a very long day.
