I spent this morning having brilliant ideas about how to keep track of whose files don't have what in them and whether they actually need what they haven't got. Unfortunately, what I haven't got is the time to implement any of these ideas. I got as far as putting an if/then statement in an Excel spreadsheet to automatically tell me who doesn't need what. (Given documents A, B, X and Y, a search needs A, B and Y, and an evaluation needs B, X and Y, but there's a certain kind of evaluation that only needs B, and you can kill yourself looking for X and Y in that case before you remember you don't need them.)

Anyway, when I can get this tracking thing set up and tweaked, I think it'll be hella useful. I just need the world to leave me alone for long enough to do it. Maybe next Thursday night?

Yesterday I went through everything my coworker L had inherited that she thought I probably needed to at least look at, to the tune of roughly two and a half feet of files. Most of it got recycled, because most of it wasn't necessary any more. I'm proud of myself for getting through it and getting other things done at the same time, but I really don't want to have to do that again. There's enough current stuff going on without my having to deal with stuff from last February. (Ye gods, I was still in grad school last February!)

Maybe it doesn't sound like it, but I really do like this job. The longer I'm here, the more I wonder why I stayed at the dental school for as long as I did. (I probably do know why; it's because reliable income is addictive.)

Oh yes, I was going to go out and buy bandaids. I managed to give myself three paper cuts yesterday.

I bought a dozen eggs last week, all of which were fine when I bought them. I used two in various things, and decided to hardboil the others just now. One was stuck to the carton and cracked, and two others exploded in the process of boiling.

At the risk of making a completely ludicrous statement, I am not impressed with the structural integrity of these eggs.
