Sep. 24th, 2012 12:11 pmThe kitchen floor is getting done on October 5, which is convenient because it's the Friday after the Tuesday of P&R. So I can take the day off, and wrangle Snip myself instead of locking her in the carrier at 8:00 and asking that somebody let her out when the floor is done. Feline help is a kind of help the floor guys can do without, but if they don't start until noon, that really wouldn't be fair to Snip. (Taking that day off also means I have a four-day weekend, because October 8 is Columbus Day. I only sort of did that on purpose.)
So after October 5, I can do laundry without worrying about water on the floor (which hasn't ever happened, knock on wood), and I can use the oven without worrying about the dropcloth that has one end under the stove. And I can wash the floor without worrying about ruining the underlayment. All of these are good things.
I got another one of the periodic visits I get from the little invisible man with the huge invisible ice pick. He stuck it through my right ankle on Saturday while I was out doing errands, and proceeded to leave it there through last night. Today it seems to be gone again, thank goodness. It made me feel old, though, in the "what do you MEAN I can't walk to Washington Square?" kind of way. I went to the nearer drugstore instead, and for variety's sake I got stuck on the wrong side of Brighton Ave by the Allston-Brighton Day 5K road race instead of the parade. At least the race moves faster than the parade, and it was a nice day for being outdoors. And I didn't have to go to Franklin and move furniture, and I knew that before my ankle started giving me grief.
The problem with having something fairly old that works is that by the time it stops working, you can't find a replacement for it. Case in point, my digital magnetic kitchen timer with individual number buttons. The time has come for the regiment to reinvest, but the regiment can't find a magnetic timer with individual number buttons. They all have an Hour button and a Minute button these days. I guess I really am feeling old.
